Retailing plays a very important role in the modern economy and society, which can not only control the market, but also dominate production and effect finance. Thus, it is an important source of growth of the world, especially the ASEAN.Transnational operating of retail enterprises can be dated from the 1970s. After the three times' retailing revolution, it reached a climax during the 1990s. In the wave of economic globalization, Transnational operating arming at overseas markets has become an very important way to create economies of scale and to develop to a higher level for the future retail enterprises. While, opening up the retail economies has increasingly become the forefront of the subject of open economy.The international marketing of retail companies was most obvious in Europe, North America and East Asia. Benefited from the national economic development, abundant labor resources and reserves, as well as the aggressively opening up policies in the retailing, the retail enterprises in ASEAN 5 (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam) gradually distinguished themselves from the international retailers. On the one hand, foreign retailers have invested in the retail market of ASENA 5, and drove the rapid development of national retailing, each with a distinct identity. On the other hand, local retailers in ASEAN 5 begin to carry out international exploration, after learning the advanced technology and management from foreign international retailers. In the rescue, they found suitable market positioning for their future development.At present, the Chinese market is stable. It has become the focus of attention of international retailers for its good condition in polity> economic environment, and the huge consumption potential, especially the opening up of retail market in 12th 2004, according to the agreement between China and WTO. China and ASEAN 5 has similar issues in retail development: not only to achieve economies of scale to compete with foreign retailers, but also carry out international management conforming to the trend of economic globalization. This article will focus on the development,motivations and impact of the retail opening in ASEAN 5, combined with the prospect of retail development, trends and their investment in ASEAN 5 to discuss the retail openness in china, and to make some suggestions in the co-operation of retailing between China and ASEAN 5.
