Study with regard to tourism image in China focused on three aspects as following: the first one is research which based on destinations about tourism destination image planning, positioning and marketing; the second one is research which based on tourists about the tourists' cognitive level of tourism destination image; the third one is research which based on tourism media about dissemination of tourism destination image. The former two types of research is adequate, but research on dissemination of tourism destination image is less, especially, research is even less which on the media function in process of the formation and structuring of tourism destination image. Therefore, the dissertation discusses the function of media in the construction of urban tourism image to give an evidence-based path for media dissemination of tourism destination image (especially for the city).This dissertation includes five parts as following: Chapter I reviews the relevant literature, sums up the achievements in these fields, points out the purpose and significance of the research, and establishes the hypothesis which need to be proved and the methodology; Chapter II focuses on some basic concepts and several relevant theoretical devices, such as the theories of the urban image space, tourism destination image, etc. And gradually leads to the concept of urban tourism image after describing related concepts; Chapter III discusses the construction of urban tourism image with analyzing its constituent elements , composition of these elements, internal structure, the structure style and the law of construction; Chapter IV discusses the media dissemination in the construction of urban tourism image both theoretically and empirically. Theoretically, it analyses the characteristics of media dissemination and communication path, and empirically it is a case study of media and cognitive of Shanghai urban tourism image, which analyses factors of media channels and information types that impact on the results of dissemination of urban tourism image; Chapter V reviews the whole dissertation and concludes functions of media in the construction of urban tourism image from the three dimensions of the internal structure of the urban tourism image and put forward a path to realize these functions.
