Resource-constrained project scheduling problem is an important branch in the project management area. We believe that under the guide of a good schedule planning, project can be finished on time in a high probability, and then the company would be able to acquire more profit. Otherwise, the manager would face the postponement or overspend, which means facing penalty even losing customers. Goldratt pointed out a fact that saving project duration would bring the company a good profit prospect. And critical chain project management (CCPM) is such a new technology concentrating on schedule management. Now, the CCPM received more and more attention. This thesis is started with an introduction of the CCPM. Then a heuristic algorithm for how to find the critical chain is proposed. After that, a step by step example is showed, and a method combined with software Project 2003 is proposed. Next, as to the current concern on the setting of buffer size, an improved algorithm based on PERT/CPM is proposed. Through Monte Carlo simulation and comparative study, it has been proved that the algorithm is effective. In the forth chapter, we focused on the project control management in CCPM, summarized three important points and makes comments on them. In the final prospects part, three CCPM research directions has been lay out: Firstly, the algorithm research; secondly, applications research; and thirdly is the multi-project management study.
