The current leading concept of quality control following"Total Quality Management"is known as the model of six-sigma, which is the basis of decision making for much management in the industry. However, it has not been extensively applied in the construction industry in Taiwan. From the point of view of construction process, the initial planning phase is much more important than the construction stage that follows; the value and quality of the product is determined in the planning phase. Is a tool to reform the construction industry by ensuring efficiency and quality at the same time? The structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire safety aspects of a construction project can all be integrated in the construction drawings with the implementation of the concept of six-sigma, leading to decreased error rate and increased productivity. In this study, a literature review has been followed by an illustrative construction case, through which the definitions and procedures of six-sigma was discussed thoroughly. Information gathered through interviews with management personals as well as factual data were both evaluated. Methodology was developed to quantify the improvement in productivity and efficiency achieved through the application of six sigma. We hope the results of this study will assist the construction industry in understanding the benefits of implementing the six-sigma.
