Study On The Event Of China Participating In Milan International Fair In 1906

During the time from the later 19th century till Chinese Revolution of 1911 eve, Chinese society changed a lot .And during this time cultural exchanges and introjections occured between China and other countries. Under this background,Chinese exhibition enterprise rised.This thesis mainly researches the significant matter that China participated in the Italy Milan international fair in 1906.When China was in the position of semi-feudalism and semi-colony and could not be independent in the field of economy and politics. There was much difficulty for China in independently participating in international exhibition affair. However, China encouragingly succeeded and this matter enlightened us greatly. The thesis will be discussed and analyzed in three chapters.The first chapter mainly analyzes the society background from the later 19th centuries to the early 20th century. As the product of capitalist economy, Exhibition developed quickly in the Capitalism World. And China was involved in this tide. For many reasons, the development of exhibition was devious and malformed in China. The second chapter analyses the preparations and process taken by later Qing Dynasty in participating in Milan international fair. The Foreign Affairs Bureau and Business Bureau of Qing Dynasty independently handled this affair under the condition of financial crisis. This matter organized by Chinese businessman and official manifested the level of our industry and art once more to the world and Chinese thalassocracy was declared and revealed., By contrast, however, the hysteresis of Chinese item on display was also obvious.The third chapter analyzes the effect. China regained the rights of undertaking international exhibition affair and China had institutionalization and modernization in the field of exhibition .However , much fault and pity reflected in it call our attention. We can learn more from it in the way China participating in the World Exhibition and holding World Expos(such as holding Shanghai World Expos in 2010).
