The Research On The Port Competitiveness Evaluation Based On The BP Neural Network

With the development of international economy and the continuous strengthening of global communication, the competition among the ports aggravates increasingly. With the expansion of the port function, the range of the port competitiveness changes rapidly. Under this circumstance, the research on the port competitiveness is especially important.The competitiveness of port is the comparative advantages in relation to other ports that port can provide natural, economic system and environment with its port resources, to attract all kinds of factors of production and the scarce resources which are conducive to port development and optimize the allocation of resources in the aspect of occupying market, creating value and maintaining sustainable development. The final performance of the port is that it can use kinds of resources more efficiently than other ports, so it can attract more shipping companies, cargo owners and radiate greater market space. And the evaluation of port competitiveness is a system of management, supervision and improving of port competitiveness. With the current increasingly fierce competition of ports, establishing a set of evaluation index system of port competitiveness which is suitable for port's characteristics and using scientific and mathematical method to evaluate port competitiveness has a very important significance. A system analysis and a quantitative comprehensive evaluation of port competitiveness can help decision-makers understand the development status of the port properly, make the port's own competitive position and weak links of the competitiveness clear, in order to take effective measures to foster and enhance port competitiveness, so as to the port can get the best economic and social benefits. This is not only of a very practical guiding significance for the future development of the port, but also provides an orientation for the establishment of future development strategy of the port.This paper carried out a new appraising method which is based on the BP neural network. The method was carried on the base of the research on the appraising index system and appraising method of port competitiveness which already exist. Facing to the shortage of the method which exists in the appraising the port competitiveness currently, the paper built an appraising index system first. Then according to the index system, designed the BP nerve network model, and gave out the feasible valuation procedure. On reckoning, the paper used the MATLAB neural networks tool case (NNT) to design the net and calculate. Training and testing by studying a sample book, made the model error reach the predetermined range inner. Then an entire network model building-up was finished. Finally, the paper verified the accuracies and the feasibility of this method with the example.
