As China's rapid economic development, benefited from superior geographic conditions, advanced knowledge, information, technology dissemination to the rural suburbs, changing the rural outskirts of the production, lifestyles and improve the income of peasants, farmers have the ability to build more new houses, enlarge the scale of suburban rural settlement, and change the old village. Correctly understand the land use driven mechanism is conducive to optimizing the land used by suburban rural settlement, and build a harmonious socialist new countryside.In this paper, in theory, applied centre land theory, the space interaction theory, the sustainable development theory, the habitat environment and the urban and rural integration theory, it analyzed the characters of settlement sites in the rural suburbs, and summed up the impact of suburban rural settlements in land size of the four factors (demographic, economic, scientific, technological, institutional factors), then taking Jiang Xiaqu as an example, analyzed the size and driving forces of suburban rural settlement, finally found that:First, in theory, we find out that suburban rural settlement in the time scale on the site has inverted "U"-type features, mainly due to the four factors economic, demographic, institutional, scientific and technological which affect land using scale of suburban rural settlement. Economic, demographic factors have positive relationship with suburban land in rural habitat while the technological factor and suburban land in rural habitat exists negative correlation. Environmental, economic, and demographic factors playing the role of suburban land in rural habitat are relatively easy performance,but the policy factors play their role needs a relatively long period of time for making decision. Similarly, scientific and technological factors on the suburban rural settlements in the role of the scale of land there is a delay, mainly due to the level of science and technology dissemination and peri-urban farmers acceptable level of impact. In the early stages of socio-economic development, is the dominant factor, making the rural residential land growth trend. When socio-economic development to a certain stage, with the standard of living and quality of suburban farmers arising, and raising the level of urbanization, environmental and resource constraints, the scale of land for suburban and rural settlements showing a downward trend, thus enabling rural settlements in suburban land changes on the performance of the inverted "U"-type features.Second, from the results of empirical analysis, It confirmed the suburban rural settlement in the time scale on the site inverted "U"-type, and pointed out that this inflection point is 2003. And through dynamic clustering analysis, it found out that: Jiang Xiaqu rural settlements have obvious differences between regions. At 2002, the land area per capita of rural settlements in the third category is 1.2 times in the first category, but under the national macro-control, the gap between this region showing a narrowing trend, and intensive use of land in rural settlements in the trend has been formed.Third, Use of principal component analysis the driving forces of suburban rural settlement in Jiang Xiaqu, it found out that the factors are economic factors, demographic factors, technological factors, institutional factors. Economic factors which dominated its flexibility as high as 0.971. Economic factors, demographic factors, technology-related factors were positive related while the effect of institutional factors was negatively correlated.
