In recent years, cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have been increasingly used by enterprises and as a result, the importance of post-merger integration has been recognized by the companies which are involved in M&A. Among all kinds of integrations, external integration is crucial to the success of M&A, but unfortunately, it has not received enough attention from both business world and academic circle. Scholars have been focusing on the internal integration of culture, strategy, human resource and so forth. Even if some of them indeed mentioned certain aspects of external integration, there is yet a whole analysis frame. So it is necessary to study the integration of cross-border M&A from an external angle. This thesis aimed to emphasize the fundamentality of external integration and build an integrated analysis frame so that we can understand the worldwide cross-border M&A better. And at the same time, we hope it will benefit the oversea M&A of China's enterprises as well as the Chinese government's management and supervision of domestic cross-border M&A.As to the structure of this thesis, it goes as follow: First, in the part of introduction we point out the issue needed to be studied, and then we come to the significance, innovations, difficulties and frame of the thesis; second, we introduce the relevant literatures; third, in the core part, we define the external relations of firms and the external integration of cross-border M&A, then we discuss the principle and process of the integration from the angles of being provider, consumer, community member and competitor separately; in the next part, we focus on how to cooperate with the host government based on the monopoly economics; then we will analyze a famous case of "good year"; last, as a conclusion, the thesis provides some common suggestions for Chinese enterprises and Chinese government.
