Studies On Economic Management Of The Cocoon Silk Industry In Guangxi

The cocoon silk industry in China is traditional and one of the few industries being dominant in the world. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has already become an important silkworm production province in the country through recent years of development. It has rich experience and good production foundation in mulberry planting, silkworm rearing, reeling and comprehensive utilization in Guangxi. The area of mulberry field was amount to 0.63 million hectares and the silkworm cocoon output was about 141,300 tons in 2005; and the area of mulberry reach 12.04 million hectares and the silkworm cocoon output was 185,700 tons in 2006, which occupied 14.34% and 25.16% of the total in the country, respectively, and provided 5.053 million pieces of silkworm egg. The sericultural farmers received a total of 4.486 billion yuan from selling cocoon, and 5,882 yuan per household in average. The silkworm production covers over 677 townships, 6,247villages and 762,700 farmer households. Because of the importance of sericulture in Guangxi for the whole country and in the economy development of the province, we are facing many challenges in the macroeconomic management and regulations.This paper analyzed the present status, the existing problems and the restriction factors of sericulture development in Guangxi from the development history and status of the world, the country and the province, the characteristics and achievements of sericulture in Guangxi, and its importance to the economic development in Guangxi. The sericulture economy management in Guangxi was discussed based on seven aspects, that is, the management pattern and appropriate farming size, the industrialized production, the production management, the product market and its management, the cost analysis, extension of the industry chain, and the progress and popularization of related science and technology. This paper also studied the management types and patterns of sericulture, the benefits from production farms with different sizes, the organization forms of large-scale sericulture production, the countermeasures of sericulture modernization and the development direction of sericulture production in Guangxi. This paper also discussed the basic characteristics, patterns and operation mechanism of the sericulture industry, the production management of mulberry seed and seedling, the management of cocoon purchasing and drying stations, the conduction of sericulture commodity, the circulation management of silkworm cocoon, the circulation management of mulberry seed and silkworm egg, the cost analysis of sericulture production, and the ways to improve the sericulture economic efficiency in Guangxi. Simultaneously, this paper recommended the form, development direction and method of appropriate successive processing industry chain of sericulture economy in Guangxi, and measures to improve the ability of successive processing industry which in turn promote the sericulture development. The development direction, progress and popularization of sericulture science and technology were stressed.
