A Study Of Zhejiang International Competitiveness Of The Manufacturing Industry Based On Cluster Innovation System

For years, the study of international competitiveness of industry have always caught the concern of researchers all over the world, for it has significant meaning for a country's economic development. In this thesis, the author focuses his study on Cluster Innovation System and the international competitiveness of industry based on the characteristics of Zhejiang massive economy, and the relatively new industry cluster theory - Cluster Innovation System Theory.On the basis of previous works, the author put forward a three-level Cluster Innovation evaluation system, by dividing the innovative system into three stages: clusters sprout, grow and mature. Besides, the author theoretically revealed the affected mechanism of cluster system of innovation international competitiveness of the industries through research of the interaction between the five elements in the evaluation system with the various factors in Porter Diamond model. Moreover, according to the data from 2005-2006 Global Competitiveness Report, the author figure out the CISL of 115 countries/regions, measures the correlation between The CISL and other various indicators of competitiveness(GDP, PPP, GCI, CI, etc.), and finally comes to the conclusion of a positive influence of the Cluster Innovation System on a country's competitiveness by comparing different nations.On the basis of theoretical study, the author has interviewed many of Zhejiang' s Industrial Clusters and select Shaoxing Textile Industry Cluster as a sample for in-depth analysis and research. By established a model to verify the source of the competitive advantage of industry clusters, the result from the site visits and analysis perfectly testified our theoretic work, that is, competitive advantage comes mainly from aggregation and investment, innovation capability is still rather weak. Due to the above result, we suggest the government should concern on the construction and improvement of Cluster Innovation System, and a policy of different government's behavior patterns for certain industry clusters is also recommended in the thesis.
