The 1990s, the fifth wave of mergers was throughout the world. In this situation, many Chinese enterprises carry out the "step out"strategy in order to reduce cost, increase efficiency, optimize the allocation of resources and stand out in the global market. Especially after China has been a member of WTO, this "step out "strategy has been copied extensively. However, it has been proved that there was only 30% enterprises which adopted this strategy have achieved their goal.This thesis focuses on some typical cases on cross-board M&A with a view of CI (Competitive Intelligence), and tries to analyze the Chinese enterprises' practices. Conclusions are drawn for Chinese enterprises on the the process of cross-board M&A while making good use of the Competitive Intelligence.This thesis includes five parts.1. A review of current cross-board M&A practice and Competitive Intelligence research.Subject and research method are put forward in this part.2. An analysis of the Chinese enterprises cross-board M&A practice.Existing main problems are pointed out.3. An analysis of the demands of CI in cross-board M&A.4. A systemic analysis of the function provided by CI with the case study of two successful cross-board M&A practices.5. Conclusions and suggestions.
