The Research Of HGST Co. For Competitiveness

This thesis introduced competitiveness was the key factor for an enterprise survival and developing in the market firstly, because nowadays, each enterprise is in a globalization environment with opening and competition as the main topics. Each enterprise has to face the competition come from domestic and the whole world market. Only a company has competitiveness can succeed and survival in this environment.The thesis firstly analyzed HGST Company and related HDD industry status, including 2 stages of HDD industry development and the factors for other competitors'success and defeat in Chapter 1. Then discussion on competitiveness theory in Chapter 2, we found strategy instructed the direction of competitiveness; organization ensured competitiveness development, while organization learning was the source & engine of the competitiveness. Next, analysis for HGST Company competitiveness was made by research on HDD industry structure via 5 competition power initiated by Michael Porter, HGST Company SWOT analysis, and internal resources & competence identification. Finally we found HGST Company is not so successful during current situation. The problems mainly related to its high cost, low efficiency, poor organization management, and lack of strategy competitiveness. Thus can not satisfy current market requirements and shorted product lifetime. Based on above analysis, suggestions for improvement were made in Chapter 3, the main measures including: low cost strategy position, organization innovation, speeding up new products to market, localization and grow corporate culture. The research and discussion in this thesis can not only help HGST Company for competitiveness improvement but also can benefit other companies like HGST for solutions making and competitiveness analysis etc.
