Cognitive science emerged in the 1970s, and psychology, linguistics, philosophy, neuroscience, computer science, and artificial intelligence (AI) all contribute to this enterprise. An interdisciplinary investigation of human cognition and cognitive processes, such as thinking, reasoning, memory, attention, learning, mental representation, perception and problem solving.Hilary Putnam's theories are associated with philosophy and cognitive science, for example, thought of scientific realism (meaning and reference theory, truth theory ) which is important in the philosophy of science. With the development of computer technology, he began to think over the relation between computer and mind, introduced one new theory, "Functionalism", which is closely associated with cognitivism, AI, and computer model of the mind. Functionalism has had a great influence on the philosophy of mind, especially on artificial intelligence (AI), and the philosophy of cognitive science. In addition, functionalism, Putnam proposed some famous thought experiments such as "Twin earth", and "Brain in vats". Putnam has acute insights and logical speculative thought. So many scientists and philosophers are interested in his theories. It is hence an attempt to understand and analyze functionalism, twin earth, and brain in vat in terms of the development of artificial intelligence (AI), cognitive linguistics, cognitive psychology and brain science in cognitive science in order to get the thought on the philosophy of cognitive science. At the same time, discuss such problems: qualities and defects of functionalism; twin earth and brain in vats, which tell us we have to face some focus problems.I adopt some methods, such as interdisciplinary (psychology, linguistics, philosophy of mind, AI etc.), argument by analogy (for example, Searle, Chinese room argument), contextual method (by analyzing the structure of one sentence), induction. My discussion of these arguments and views is intended to serve three ends: First of all, I want to show that Putnam's argument for functionalism which is helpful to build the foundation of cognitive science, but there are still some defects. Secondly, I want to show that there are our cognitive forms through twin earth experiment. Thirdly, I attempt to find the relation between brain in vat experiment and cognitive science.
