In today' society, where the competence of enterprises relies more and more on the knowledge and capacity of their employees, effective system of performance evaluation, scientific institution of motivation, and management of career paths are important bases of attracting excellent persons, motivating employees, and improving the competence of enterprises continuously. Only by founding systems of performance evaluation and motivation compensation, which are based on capacity and performance and emphasizing career paths of employees in the course of institutional innovation can companies gain an advantage in the competition of personnel market and the initiative in the market. At present, most companies overemphasize the percentage of market and the speed of development, but lack a complete set of complementary human resource management systems to support the rapid development of business. One of the most important parts of the systems is employee performance evaluation system, which is closely related to institution of motivation, career paths of employees and so on. Therefore, it is of vital importance to found a system of employee performance evaluation. Every important decision in the management and development of human resource must be connected with performance evaluation, which can help the manager's judge fairly, award clearly, and assess employees scientifically. Performance evaluation is the core function of human resource management. This thesis introduces a system of employee performance evaluation which is designed according to the related basic theories of performance evaluation, on the bases of the diagnosis of the system of performance evaluation in the Sinotrains Container Lines Company, by analyzing the existing problems in the performance evaluation system in recent years and comparing different evaluation methods employed in the company , and with the purpose of making up a proper fit of system to improve the performance of the employees in the Sinotrains Container Lines Company and providing a reference to the companies in the same industry. This thesis makes a systematical introduction of the goal, content, standard, means and process of the design of the performance evaluation system, summarizes common problems existing in today's system as well as how these problems influence the whole performance of the Sinotrains Container Lines Company, and shows how to solve the problems by designing effective performance evaluation system. Finally, this thesis assesses the effect of new system of performance evaluation, analyses the characteristics and shortages of the new system, and gives the plan for improvement to provide reference to the companies in the same industry.
