Freight transport on road has made a great advancement in China since taking the policy of reform and opening to the outside world. It has become more and more essential in our comprehensive transportation system with continuous increased proportion. Since the economy and our society have been developing very fast and the opening to abroad is getting deeper, the conventional transportation of planned economy, with its oversized, small scale, scattered and weak management pattern, cannot suit the mode of social extensive production which required by market-directed economy. Meanwhile, the growing demanding for modernized logistics pushes transport company to change its business strategy from simple goods conveyor into real logistic company . To push conventional freight transportation changing into modernized logistics service is not only the need of the development of our economy but also the need of self-development of road freight transportation, and the country's policy and measure have to be used to ensure the change. In the first place, this essay focuses on the relation between road freight transport and modern logistics. In the second place, the essay the essay analyses the current situation and the existing problems of freight transport in industrial scale and capacity structure. The basic mode and policy suggestions have been given on how to develop logistics in freight transportation according to the possibility, necessity and feasibility, and especially pays attention to the critical point on developing logistics service. At last, The essay also makes discussion on how to quicken the development in logistics service of freight transport based on its status quo, demand and existing problems.
