On Deng Xiaoping's Agricultural Development Thought

As a great statesman, Deng Xiaoping always took a long-range and strategic approach to agriculture. He paid great attention to agricultural reform and development, pondered and designed the grand blueprint for China's agricultural modernization. His numerous elaborations bore important and profound implications. They have formed agricultural development thought which contains comprehensive theoretical framework, vast space for development, and profound connotation with high efficience and practical values. This thought is an exploration on the paths and patterns of socialist agriculture modernization with Chinese characteristics. It enjoys an important theoretical status. Today, after 30 years of reform, under the general background of pushing forward the new socialist rural construction, solving "three agricultures" dilemma, making the choice on positively developing modern agriculture and strengthening the foundation of the new rural industry, the study and analysis of Deng Xiaoping's agricultural development thought still have profound significance. Bearing this in mind, this thesis has carried out a preliminary study.The first part defines Deng Xiaoping's agricultural development thought. It puts emphasis on the concept of "development". From the perspective of word meaning and category of concept, it clarifies the scientific connotation of Deng Xiaoping's agricultural thought.The second part elaborates the formative conditions and the development course. About the formation condition, this article discusses from the subject transformation in time, the theoretical fountainhead, the historical inside story, the historical model and the practice foundation. And about development course of the thought, we follow the line of Deng Xiaoping's elaboration and the transformation course of China's agriculture development, combined with Deng Xiaoping's own political experiences.The third part summarizes the main contents and the theoretical characteristics. Through the quotation and research of relevant literature, we summarize the content of Deng Xiaoping's agricultural development thought as the following five aspects: the strategic position of agriculture, the ontological position of agriculture, the indispensable position of agriculture, the "two jumps" of agriculture development and the sustainable overall development of agriculture. Based on these, this thesis refines the characteristics of the theory as: the strategic thought, the practical innovation theoretical style, the people's benefit oriented value and the dialectical systematic development mentality.The fourth part analyzes the theoretic and practical significance of Deng Xiaoping's agricultural development thought. Theoretically, it has innovates Marx and Mao Zedong's relevant thoughts. In practice, the glorious achievement in China's agricultural development manifests its significance and it will continue to instruct the construction of new rural areas and exert its influence on developing modern agriculture.
