With the development of science and technology, the new product and process are created continuously in the semiconductor industrial. Usually those products will be transferred from the R&D to the HVM (High Volume Manufacture) site or from one HVM site to another new one, and meanwhile ensured they can be put on the market as soon as possible and bring the profit to the company. All kinds of unexpected issue will be encountered during the technology transferring and equipment testing. Sometimes, it may take a quite long time to reach the targeted yield, even if the new production line was copied from the existed one. This will not only cause the unnecessary profit loss for the company but also impact the effective execution of the strategy. Is there any methodology that can be followed to shorten this technology transferring period and move to the high volume manufacturing stage with the targeted yield and process stability guaranteed? The answer is yes.As the biggest CPU manufacturer in the world, Intel not only has the strong R&D capability but also has the advanced manufacture technology. The new product usually can be produced massively with high quality and occupy the market in a quick manner thanks to its Copy Exactly strategy. This paper tends to provide a practical reference through summarizing the Copy Exactly methodology on the basis of real experiences. And also it will have a discussion on how to make sure the Copy Exactly method can be carried out effectively. Hope this paper will offer a valuable reference to semiconductor manufacturing industry and the approach discussed here could equally be employed in other industries, where the technology is complex and has many interacting variables effecting the end result.
