Investigation On The Application Of Rorschach Test In The Assessment For Managers

To select the appropriate managers, it is old-line to assess managers from the angle of psychology, with various approaches. However, these approaches neither uniform nor standard. Furthermore, there are very few studies about the application of Rorschach Test in the assessment for managers, which is normally recognized as the complementarity of the conventional assessment approaches. The application of Rorschach Test in the assessment for managers is still at the initial stage.In this study, the 97 samples under test are sorted according to their positions, including 49 managers and 48 ordinary staff. Rigorous testing, coding, scoring and analysis are carried out according to "the Rorschach Comprehensive System", edited by Exner in 2003. The descriptive statistic approach is used to construct the managers' baseline level of data. The results of Rorschach Test for managers and ordinary staff are briefly distinguished based on the t-test method andχ2-test method, with some contrastive data being primarily screened out. Meanwhile, based on detailed analysis of samples' position category, descriptive statistic and t-test andχ2-test are conducted in the results of Rorschach Test for 30 R&D managers and 30 R&D ordinary staff, with contrastive results of Rorschach Test being derived between these two groups. Then according to the eight clusters of Rorschach variables related to psychological features of personality as defined in Exner's "the Rorschach Comprehensive System", the results of Rorschach Test are compared between the manager group and the staff group as well as between the R&D-manager group and the R&D-staff group, with the unique psychological features of personality being observed in the manager group and the R&D-manager group. To our best knowledge, this thesis is the first localized positive investigation on the application of Rorschach Test in the assessment for managers. In addition, it is also the world's first application of Rorschach Test in the assessment for R&D managers. The research results of this thesis will pave the way for other researchers in this field, and promote the application of Rorschach Test in the assessment for managers.
