City evolution is disparted three climaxes: Spring, autumn and Warring States periods, Dong-han and San-guo periods, Tang and Five periods. In Dong-han and San-guo periods, Shaoxing plain town system had come into being in lower reaches of Qian-tang river valley, Jin-qu town system rudiment formed. In Tang and Five periods, Jin-qu town system had formed, Xin-an river town system was buding, but the development was slow for Shaoxing town system, it was exceeded by Hangzhou town system, so, Qian-tang river valley presented a trend of urban integration. What to illuminate is the above conclusions is innovations.Spatial process about new original settlements, castles, counties (states) and towns is: before Qin dynasty, original settlements and castles distributed in near water and upper area, for example, basin during mountains, upper area in valley, all of them were Yue tribe, the center of this tribe was in Shaoxing. From Qin to Five Dynasty, town instauration or region exploitation were advanced from the lower reaches of Qian-tang river valley to the middle, and then the upper ones, namely, exploiting from population dense region to thin. Evolution of "market" was: there were small scale market in inner of city after city appearing; afterwards, market in city had more and more action, area, merchandise and no-normal-small-towns. In Tang and Five Dynasty, classic lane-city system breakdowned, market in city broke away from restrict of lane and time, business street appeared outside city, a lot of no-normal- small-towns had a great scale and new no-normal-small-town kept on, finally, all valley formed network system to link big and small market.Contents of the fifth chapter are mainly factors about city evolution in Qian-tang river valley before Song Dynasty, including productivity, population, government and physical geography environment and so on. Government was served by city all the times in ancientry which influence was bigger if more near ancient. Population ingoing and increase was development of city. Certainly, the best essential or biggest factor of all is productivity. Agricultural progress made remainder product increased, handicraft industry and commerce flourishing especially market development was direct drive of urbanization. In underdevelopmented ancient, people depended greatly on nature, so, physical geography environment had a crucial action for city origion and evolution.
