Abstract/Summary:
Since the economic reform, the primary issue influencing China's economic development has changed from the commodities shortage into the lack of effective demand. Consumption issue now becomes the most important issue in economics researches. As the most important factor affecting consumption, the influence of income and how it influences the peasants'consuming demand are worth to be investigated. So the research on the influence of income on peasants' consumption and the degree of influence by different aspects of income would play an important role in solving the lagged consumption in rural area. It is not only in relation to the benefit of peasants but also a key to improve the consumption as well as the economy development. In the first chapter, this paper summarizes the existed researches on consumption issue, mainly on the western researches. Then it reviews the internal researches on Chinese consumption. The second chapter is a review on classical consumption theories. Meanwhile, the hypothesis of the research is proposed, which provides the theoretical framework for the following empirical research . In the third chapter, the recent changes of peasants' income of Jiangsu province are demonstrated by graphs, and the changes of level and structure on peasants' consumption in Jiangsu are analyzed as well. Chapter four to Chapter six are the positive part of the consumption research . Chapter four can be divided into two specific aspects. Firstly, a reexpand ELES model is used to analyze the peasants'consumption demand under the influence of income. The main conclusion is that marginal consumptions of different types of commodities are various according to the different income level of peasants Secondly, ordinary regression model and double-log regression model are established to investigate into relationship between consumption and the long-term income, as well as the temporary income. By comparison, conclusion is drawn that only the improvement of long-term income can accelerate the expenditure on consumption. Thirdly, peasants' income is divided into the salary income, household's management income, and other income according to the Jiangsu statistic yearbook. The influences on consumptions are detected respectively. The result indicates that household's management income have a positive relationship with consumption expenditure, but the relationship of other incomes are not remarkable. In the fifth Chapter, the impact of income gap on consumption demand is analyzed by the comparison of data and graphs. It shows that the gap between rural and urban area, as well as the internal income inequality would constrain the consumption demand of farmers . In the sixth Chapter, the impact of income uncertainty on consumption demand is analyzed by the establishment of an over sensitive model, and the conclusion indicated that the increase of income uncertainty may induce the increase of saving, thereby may limit the consumption. The final chapter of the paper is the general conclusion. Suggestions are proposed according to the above analysis.
