Research On Competitiveness Of Chinese Textile Industry

Textile industry is a traditional one of long history, and is also one of China's few industries boasting great competitiveness in export trade. With China's entry into WTO and the cancellation of trade quota, both domestic and international trade becomes increasingly fierce. There is a realistic need to take a study on how to maintain and strengthen this industry's competitiveness in an effort to promote textile industry's healthy and long-term development.Since its introduction into China in 1990s, competitiveness study has become one of the branches in industrial economics undergoing most rapid development. This paper defines the range of competitiveness study in terms of subject scale and spatial scale, and thinks that industrial competitiveness is the advantage demonstrated by a country's (region's) industry producing specific and alternative products over other countries' (regions') same industry in terms of production efficiency, meeting market demand and making sustained profit in international (regional) trade competition. The paper systematically considers and summarizes the theoretical foundation, basic pattern and evaluation method of industrial competitiveness study; discusses China's achievement and shortages in the development of textile industry by means of analyzing this industry's development status quo; reviews the historical evolution process of China's textile industrial competitiveness through factor analysis based on longitudinal time sequence data and finds that the primary factor affecting the competitiveness of China's textile industry is gross industrial output value, overall labor productivity, sales revenue, international market share and total profit.
