The land, which is important space of production and life of mankind, is the most precious resources of human.The sustainable use of land resources is the foundation of the sustainable development of our society, and there is no sustainable development of the society without sustainable use of land resources. Urban land as urban social product and expense basic essential factor, not only is direct carrier of the urban population and each kind of social economy activity, but also is one kind of essential resources in the urban social economy activity.The sustainable urban land use is the foundation of sustainable land use of the whole area and the sustainable development of the city and our society. Therefore, this paper, taking Wuhan city for example, was given a study on sustainable use of urban land.The sustainable use of urban land resources is the exertion and development of sustainable development strategy in the realm of land resources use. Firstly, this pape was reviewed the domestic and international sustainable use on urban land, providing a frame of reference and background for the thesis. Then the thesis was put up an analysis on the target, intension and concept of the sustainable use of urban land. From two angles of time and space, the author did the research on the sustainable use of urban land.In spatial angle, the author analyzed present situation structure and succession evolution of urban land use of Wuhan city at first, and opened out change rule of urban land structure. Then, according to the principle of the information theory, the author calculated information entropy of urban land use structure of Wuhan city, and analyzed urban land use structure evolution condition of the investigative area city. The result demonstrated that the information entropy value of urban land constitution of Wuhan city reduced year by year, and indicated that along with the Wuhan city developing more maturely, its land use structure order enhanced, the indetermination did reduce, and the land use hastened more reasonably.Based on the generalized analysis of former research, this paper discussed the principle of urban land sustainable use evaluation and the design principle of appraisal index system. This paper constructed the evaluating index system of land sustainable use from economy validity, structure feasibility, scale rationality, management scientific nature and ecology security. And this paper carried on normalized processing to the appraisal index system through percentum function,and calculated weight of each index with entropy power method, and then obtained sustainable urban land use level of Wuhan city from 1995 to 2005 with the linearity adding weight method. The appraisal result indicated that the urban land use was sustainable of Wuhan city from 1995 to 2005, and sustainability strengthened unceasingly. But there were different problems in the land use process, in view of the evaluating result, this paper utilized a barrier model, and discovered the barrier factor which affected urban land use with the quantitative method, and the result indicated that the main obstacle factors affecting the sustainable urban land use displayed in the urban infrastructure construction,the urban update reconstruction, the urban land use management, and urban ecological environment construction and so on.The development tendency of sustainable urban land use, conforms to the logistic model, and on the basic of the appraisal result, utilizing logistic model, the author forecasted tendency of the urban land sustainable use in the near future of Wuhan city, and the result indicated that the sustainable urban land use further strengthened of Wuhan city.The change of sustainable urban land use was in the influence of each kind of driving factors. This paper used the principal components analytic method to withdraw the principal influencing factors, and carried on the principal components analysis. Gray connection was calculated between degree of urban land sustainable use and principal influencing factors, and final result indicated that principal driving factors of urban land sustainable use of Wuhan city were mainly the urban populace and economic development, the urban construction and the reconstruction factor, the urban ecological environment transformation factor, and the urban industrial structure change factor.Then in view of question which appeared in the sustainable urban land use in Wuhan city, the author discussed suggestion and countermeasure of sustainable urban land use in Wuhan city.Finally, the thesis was expected the further research.
