With the rapid progress of economy in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the ability question of social economic sustainable development of it has caused extensive concern of the government and the whole province people. This paper regards sustainable development theory as guidelines, base on the model of Ecological Footprint, it has carried on calculate to the ecological footprint amount of the whole province from 1995 to 2005, and comparative analysis the sustainable development ability of the social economy in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region based on ecological footprint amount of different year correctly. The paper draws the following conclusions:①As a whole, it is the ascendant trend that the per capita ecological footprint over the years 1995~2005 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Especially after 2000 year, the rate of rise speeds up. According to composition of the ecological footprint demand, the proportion of ecological demand for grassland and the fossil fuel have the tendency to continue increasing. As for the arable land , the proportion decreases progressively year by year.In the demand for the fossil fuel and grassland, the proportions accounted for are more than 50% and 30% respectively in 2005.②It presents the trend of escalation year by year to per capita ecological carrying capacity from 1995 to 2005 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The proportion of per capita ecological carrying capacity of cultivated land is the main, but its proportion demonstrates the downward trend. Through computational analysis, the per capita ecological carrying capacity of the cultivated land and the forest land is greater than one's own per capita ecological footprint demands.③Comparison of the ecological footprint supply and demand over the years from 1995 to 2005, the paper draws a conclusion that it is in the state of ecological deficit after 2003 to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Namely, it isn't in state of sustainable development. And the change trend of the ecological deficit keeps the same with variation tendency of the per capita ecological footprint demand. However, through analysis to the social economy sustainable developing ability, the development ability of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is in the trend of rising year by year. This proves that its development ability enhances year by year.Based on the above analysis result, this paper has proposed such suggestions only for consulting of the respect as carrying out the thought of "humanist", paying attention to the technology innovation, strengthen the ecology and the infrastructure construction and attention to the industrial structure adjustment etc.
