This thesis illustrates how to integrate the industries in food system according to the theories of vertical integration and agglomeration. This thesis explains the connotation and the extension of modern food system, as well as the main industries in food system, and then examines the relationgship between modern food system and modern agriculture in chapter 1. The main parts of this thesis are arranged in chapter 2 and chapter 3. This thesis mainly analysises industrial integration through vertical integration and agglomeration in food system. The equilibrium theory of industrial integration in food system is discussed in Chapter 2. This chapter, base on the equilibrium thought, focus on the comparative statics analysis from individual rationality and the collective choice, vertical integration among different industries in food system to tax and social welfare under general equilibrium. So are found the Proposition 2.1-Proposition 2.5, as well as deduction 2.3. The pattern of industrial afflomeration in food system and the development of industries are mainly discussed in Chapter 3.In this chapter, "the central-periphery" patern of agglomeration is constructed on seven analysis, which are the establishment supposed condition, the consumer behavior, the transportation cost, firm behavior in food system, the wage rate, the price index and the income, to the temporary equilibrium and stability of the equilibrium. As a results, the Proposition 3.1-Proposition 3.8, and the deduction 3.6 are found. At last of this chapter, we use a pooled cross-section time-series model of food industrial productivity and Index of industrial concentration to fited the annual data for thirty-one provinces over 1993-3005. Our results show that the Index of industrial concentration has statistically significant postive impacts on food industrial productivity rate. In chapter 4, base on the principal propositions of chapter 2 and chapter3, a case is used to study the agriculture, food industry and related industrial development of Hubei Province. Then, the in-depth reasons for slow development and latent superiorities for further development are analysised. In the last chapter, suggestion about industrial development in food system in future are put forward through theoretical model proof and experience evidence test from chapter 1 to chapter 4.
