Supermarkets are a form of retail business commonly under the chain management. The chain markets are introduced into the circulation of agricultural products so that the commodity purchased the most frequently by the consumers are available in the supermarkets, which is a relatively integrated and modern substitution for the agricultural markets in the aspect of content and formation. During the process of development, it is increasingly obvious and deepened that the development of cities contradicts the management and demands for agricultural products in agricultural markets. Although the agricultural products percentage keeps rising in supermarkets, it cannot yet indicate the replacement of the agricultural markets to be the principal part of the management of agricultural products.The paper analyzes the cost and benefit of chain supermarket of agricultural products on the basis of the theory of trade cost, the theory of large-scale production and the theory of specialty and division of labor, on the mode of economical batch order. The thesis also studies the history and present condition of the management of the chain supermarket in China and makes a comprehensive analysis of the inner and external factors which hinder the development. Finally, it presents a few measures and suggestions about how to promote the management in the light of the experience of the successful supermarkets both at home and abroad in the respects of construction of the mode of agricultural industry chain, choice of types of delivering center, and developing the organization of circulation of agricultural products.In China, it is a long way for the chain supermarket, which will inevitably become the major retail terminal of the agricultural products, to take the leading place of the market of farm produce.
