Demonstration Study On Evaluation Of Tianjin Industrial Clusters Degree

As economic globalization gradually deepens, the world economy has also developed with distinct characteristic of regionization. Region is gradually providing an important base for harmonious development of economy. The trend of economic regionization becomes clearer and clearer. Industrial cluster is a form of regional industrial organization. Economic globalization and informationization is exerting more impetus to the prominent occurrence of industrial clusters. There has been locally worked out series of relatively systemic literatures on the formation mechanism of industrial clusters. However, there is comparatively less literature regarding the evaluation method of Industrial Cluster Degree. Therefore, study on Industrial Cluster Degree evaluation index system is beneficial to development of Industrial Cluster Theory as well as Industrial Organization Theory.In this paper, an integrated study method is adopted combing qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis through both theoretic study and demonstration analysis. The paper extends its study on industrial clusters to a larger extent by targeting the industrial clusters in Tianjin. Definitions, features and evaluation index of industrial clusters are stated through qualitative analysis. Then, the cluster degree of Tianjin industry is discussed; effective measurement method of cluster degree is found out; and how to quantify such specific cluster characteristics in Porter Diamond Model as production factors, demand condition, strategy structure and competitiveness of enterprise and related supporting industries, are illustrated. Furthermore, aiming at practical application, a set of cluster evaluation index system is established for Tianjin industrial clusters taking into consideration of Tianjin realistic condition, and adopting the mode of balancing rating card, which mainly covers 5 major indexes: technology spillover effect, trade cost effect, external dimension effect, HR effect, and embeddedness effect and 16 specific indexes. The assumed data in this paper is easy to collect and primary data is mainly sourced from statistic year book.Lastly, this paper gives a detailed measurement and analysis of Tianjin industrial cluster degree in year 2003 and 2004 by Principle Component Analysis (PCA). The analysis result shows that the cluster degree of Tianjin preferential industries in year 2004 is all upgraded against that of year 2003. Also, the analysis concludes that the trade cost effect of Tianjin industrial clusters displays an obvious advantage among the five indexes. The highest cluster degree of industrial clusters is manufacturing of communication equipment, computer and other electronic facilities.
