With the furthering of economic and financial internationalization, our state-owned commercial banks should not only focus on cementing their status in mainland but also strive to grow into internationalized financial institutions, that is, operating thoughout global. The development courses of international banking industry prove that transnational M&A works as an effective way of multinational operation and for our banks it also has many advantages compared with greenfield investment. Under the synthetical effects of outside competition pressure and inside growing strength, our banks have already begun to"go global"to participate in transnational M&A.According to the above phenomena, this study first recalls the situation of our state-owned commercial banks'multinational operation and M&A. Then by introducing a strategic management instrument—SWOT Analysis Method, this article focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of our state-owned commercial banks as well as the opportunities and threats they face in current situation during the three phases of M&A including preparetion, fulfillment and conformity. It comes to conclusion from the above analysis and lists several tactic suggestions for the SO, WO, ST, WT strategies respectively.
