Since 2004, the development of Beijing CBD has advanced and its sound prospect has attracted general attention from abroad and within China. The cluster of modern service industry is the most conspicuous characteristic of Beijing CBD. It aims at attracting the headquarters of multinational corporations, advancing main industries of international financing, senior intermediary service and media. Till now, headquarters of many multinational corporations have located in it and several chief industries have revealed evident cluster tendency. However, the degrees of clusters are different and the mechanism of industrial chain is not clear. With the adjustment and elevation of industrial policy, plus the great opportunity for Beijing to hold the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing CBD is facing a new rapid development phase, which makes the research on relevant theory urgent.Looking through current literature, though many of them treat clusters as thesis theme, limited quantity is related with CBD. Within the domain of literature focusing on Beijing CBD clusters, scholars tend to pay attention to such aspects as form, effect and industrial development of CBD. Few of them chiefly focus on industrial chain. Moreover, traditional mechanism of industrial chain with the core of saving trading fee mainly applies for the manufacturing industry with vertical integration as main form. However, modern service industry is the representative for knowledge economy. Thus, the author especially applies the systematical theories of net-based industrial chain including knowledge sharing, modularity economy to acting as theoretical support for it. The author mainly applies the methods of literature research and case study. On the one hand, she explains theories about forms, effects and mechanism of network industrial chain. On the other hand, she specifically uses case study to describe the industrial chain in Beijing CBD.Based on literature review, the author in the first place analyzes aforementioned industries in modern service industry within Beijing CBD. And then, she applies general theories of form and effect of industrial cluster to analyze them. In the second place, according to the characteristics of intensive knowledge capital and distinct knowledge economy in modern service industry, the author applies the theory of net-based industrial chain under the background of knowledge economy to analyze stated main industries. She chooses the angle of net-based industrial relation rather than vertical integrated industrial connection and at the same time introduced the concept of knowledge integration. The author mainly uses the example of CCTV as the empirical evidence for media industry and then extends the representative example of industrial chain to analyze the whole network of modern service industry within Beijing CBD. In the last place, the author generally gives the appraisal for the mechanism of industrial chain for clusters within CBD area, and presents relevant problems and suggestions. The author sincerely hopes the research in the thesis can generate constructive function for rapid development of Beijing CBD.
