The enlarging concept of modern logistics has urged the port to abandon its formerly role. Now, port is changing into a integration of transportation, the labor trade, the finance, the information and the intermodalism. Its function is also changing into value-added logistics service. Those changes not only causes port function to change, but also forces port to extend the range of service. And gradually formed its unique logistics system. Modern logistics has already become the new growing point of port economy. While developing port logistics system, carry on the performance evaluation of port logistics. This has a great importance for port to consummate its logistcis system, courage in innovation and keep pace with the current development with the times.Firstly, this thesis introduces the concept of logistics, the development course as well as the classification. Afterwards, briefly introduces the definition of logistics system, performance and logistics performance, and the evaluation method of logistics performance. Next, proposes the brand-new concept of port logistics, elaborated its connotation, its characteristic and its the function. Then, according to the fuctions of port logistics system and the structure of port logistics system, a set of evaluation index system of the logistics performance of the Chinese mainland major maritime ports is constructed. Designes the questionare depended on this evaluation index system to carry on the data collection. After that, briefly introduced the concept, basic principle and its modelling steps of the method this thesis uses to modeling, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM for short). Then, by applying SEM, this thesis evaluates the port performance of seven China mainland major maritime ports which is chosen from twenty-five China mainland major maritime ports. The chosen ports are Dalian port, Tianjin port, Qingdao port, Nanjing port, Shanghai port, Shenzhen port and Guangzhou port.
