Against the background of the current world and with a daily-increasing urbanization process, cities are developing by leaps and bounds both in terms of quantity and quality. It is common knowledge that culture is exerting great influence on people's lives. As a reflection of the spirit and style of a city, culture is playing a more and more important role in the aspects of promoting the city's image, advancing the civilization degree and reflecting people's life. Therefore, it is of great significance to strengthen the construction of a city's cultural brands and to build cultural brands with profundity and distinctive styles. This has become the strategic objective and a major task in a new round of city construction.On the basis of the theories, studies and policies related to the city's cultural brands from home and abroad, and by referring to the exploration, experience and achievements of other cities, this thesis takes Zhangjiagang City as an object for research. Zhangjiagang is a city with a fast-developing economy and is a national model for its spiritual civilization construction as well as successful practice out of great theories. This thesis applies various methods such as document induction, qualitative analysis, systematic research and questionnaires and surveys to further carry out the analysis and refining on the shaping of this city's cultural brands. Based on the analysis and research, it for the first time proposes the three distinctive characteristics of Zhangjiagang City's cultural brands, namely the promotion of Zhangjiagang Spirit featuring "unite to strive, advance with load, self-added pressure and strive to be the first", the organization of culture-related activities led by the Yangtze Culture & Art Show and the spiritual construction on the purpose of raising the citizens' cultural awareness. Meanwhile, this thesis also puts forward prescient ideas and suggestions for Zhangjiagang City on how to further set up strategic objectives, foster cultural brands on a more advanced platform and promote the city's competitiveness and the degree of popularity.By studying one specific case, this thesis focuses on the connotations, rules and major tasks of the shaping of a city's cultural brands. It is a good sample for the construction of the city's cultural brands in this new era. This is where the theoretical significance and practical value of this thesis lies.
