Information technology are becoming more and more important in the increasingly competitive and changing market. More and more business organizations rely on it to promote company image and therefore increase market share. However the application of the information technology is not only a technical issue, but a management issue as well. The success of the application of information technology requires the explicit project target, comprehensive analysis on the customer demand and the appropriate program design. The analysis and design of the information system of Nantong Diesel Engine Plant is researched based on the author's practical work.Firstly, the basic information of Nantong Diesel Engine Plant is described, the opportunity and challenge in the competitive market faced by the organization, as well as the strong and weak point of the entity are analyzed. The strategy of the information system for the company is put forward. Then, the thesis disclosed the current situation and the problem on the application of information system, highlight the business position and problem on the management for sales, warehouse, purchase and production etc. For the information system requirements on those functions, the thesis made detailed analysis respectively. After that, the thesis investigated the system design and clearly stated the general principle on the system design, and designed the general function flowchart of the system. Based on the design, the system target on the functions of sales, warehouse, purchase and production etc are discussed in detail. The business process flowchart on each sub-system and the major function module are also designed. The study of the thesis provides a basis on the application of information system for Nantong Diesel Engine Plant.
