Study On The Development Mode And Construction Strategy Of Sub-CBD In China

Big Cities in China have been undergoing substantial changes ever since the Reform and Opening-up in late 1970's. The city centers are also going through development, renewal and relocation. In recent years, constructions of Central Business District spread around over the country, which includes both the renewal of original CBD and the new construction of Sub-CBD. Comparing with eastern China, planning economy system still take the leading place in West China.CBD has not played its core funtion in urban economy and has not driven the economic development of West China. Under the double opportunities of economic globalization and West China Development, the central cities have to face the problems of CBD renewing and Sub-CBD construction.This paper is set in this historic background, attempting to identify the commom problems emerging during the evolvement of CBD system. With the combination of theory and practice, the paper conducts four case studies of successful Sub-CBD constructions both in and out of China. After that, the paper identifies the problems in current construction of Sub-CBD around China, and analyzes the general rules and construction mode of it. At the end of this paper, case of Chongqing is taken as a demonstration.
