Some firms generate far greater returns than others. Successful firms are successful because they have competitive advantage. However, what is competitive advantage? How to create competitive advantage in practice? We will focus on identifying opportunities for value creation and then developing competitive advantage to exploit them.High-tech sector of the economy represents the most dynamic area of economic activity and provides the greatest number of entrepreneurial opportunities. Angiotech, a Vancouver, BC drug development company, is a typical high-tech start-up. I will discuss how high-tech startups take strategies and methods to create competitive advantage.The thesis comprises five chapters, proposing several theories surrounding Angiotech Case.Chapter 1: Introduction: the origin of competitive advantage, its definition's debate and my view.
