The financial circles of China will be open to the outside world overall by the end of 2006. The Chinese financial market will be a part of global financial system to a great degree. It is sure to take the drastic competition for the financial institutions home and abroad. Thanks to the development of the Chinese economy and the requirements for financal services, the banks are now facing unparalleled opportunities and challenges.In order to follow the tide of history, Chinese commercial banks speed up the reformation to try to cut the biggest cake of the underline business. As an immportant part of underline business, the international settlements can bring higher profits and serve the high-quality customers better. It is an efficient way to strengthen the cooperation with the international companies and consolidate the important relationships with customers, which can drive the development of other businesses in the banks. So the domestic and international financial institutions have strengthened the contention of the international settlements. In the future, the one that can have a bigger share of the market in the international business will be at an advantage in the international competition.Small and medium joint-stock banks (SMJSBs)are immportant forces in the financial market of China. Through these years' reformation, the competition is greatly improved. But compared with the state-owned banks and the foreign banks, it has a bigger disparity. In the background of drastic international settlement market, the questions about Whether SMJSBs obtain the existing space and how are the prospects for development of SMJSBs urgently awaits to be solved.
