Industrial organization theory provides scientific basis for the government to establish industrial policies and promote their development."Market Structure-Market Conduct-Market Performance"paradigm is the key content of industrial organization theory. By studying the situation and the relationship of market structure, conduct and performance, we can achieve the goal of improving market performance. After China's entry to WTO, financial market will be more open than ever and banking industry will face more drastic competition. Meanwhile, Chinese banking industry begins to be open domestically. As a result, stock commercial banks are growing up to be an important part of the banking system and the national economy. Because of the complicated developing environments, the reformation of Chinese state-owned commercial banks has become one of the main contents of the economical reformation. Therefore, how to implement the proper policies, is a significant issue of the day.This dissertation is an industrial organization approach to banking industry mainly studies the theory and policy in banking industry, which is focused on the structure, conduct, and performance of banking industry. Firstly, we study the theoretic framework of industrial organization theory in which the SCP of banking industry has been reinterpreted. Integrating the study of banking industry into industrial organization expands the scope of industrial organization. Secondly, we analyze the market structure, the market conduct and the market performance exactly.
