A Research On Foreign Trade Development Pattern In China

China has made great progress in foreign trade business since the reform and opening policy was implemented in 1979. And our country has got a lot of advantages and benefit, visible or invisible, from the reform, and this push our economy to develop to a high level. The rapid progress in foreign trade was based on the reform of foreign trade systems and the adjustment of foreign trade development strategy. The foreign trade development strategy have been changed greatly since the reform, and this played a very important role in the economical development and trading business. Thus, we can get the rules of its development and evolvement through analyzing and studying it carefully so as to choose the best trading pattern in the future.Basing on the understanding of the World Bank's definitions of foreign trade strategy and the neutral policies concerned, this thesis gives the its own definition of foreign trade strategy: import Substitution strategy— the trading policies that encourage sales in domestic market, and export-oriented strategy—the policies which are equally treated in domestic and in overseas market without discrimination or even sway toward international market as wellThen, I reviewed and analyzed our country's foreign trade development strategy in this thesis. Due to the internal and external social and economical environment which our country encounters before the reform, we preferred the development strategy of heavy industry, that is, the import substitution strategy. However, we had achieve little because we adopted the development strategy of heavy industries when China was a capital-scare economy, which didn't utilized better the comparative advantages of relative abundant labor. Since the reform, our foreign trade strategy has been changed from import substitution strategy to export-oriented through a series of adjustments and regulations of the foreign trading system and policies. At the same time, our planned economy has changed gradually into market economy, furthermore, our comparative advantages has been brought to play. When considering the evolvement of foreign trade strategy in China, I positively analyzed it by different aspects such as tariffs, non-tariff measures, export encouragement and effective protections and gave it different phase descriptionsFinally, by analyzing the Bela Balassa ' index of revealed comparative advantage, I comment on the effectiveness of the strategy changing, and I come a conclusion that the labor-concentration manufacture which prevails these years in our export field is suitable for this densely-populated country, and that a comparative advantage functions well in our economical life nowadays.
