This thesis is a detailed study on self-management of condominium. Condominium should be managed by unit owners in the form of Owners'Association. The purpose of this thesis is to provide reference and suggestions for the improvement of relevant legal system in China on the basis of analyzing US laws and practices regarding condominium self-management.First part of this thesis discusses the nature of condominium ownership and condominiums as the underlying concepts in condominium management. The private nature of condominium ownership qualifies unit owners as condominium administrator, with owners'association proven to be a much more effective management organization. Second part argues that owners'association is both economically and legally necessary for condominium self-management. Third part analyzes legal system regarding condominium self-management in both China and USA in a comparative view. Generally speaking, condominium should be managed by owners'association with bylaw as its constitutional document and two bodies as its functioning organ. Basing on this comparison, last part of this thesis provides some suggestions for future China law reforms regarding condominium self-management, of which the most important is incorporation of owners'association. As two main functioning organs of owners'association, owners'meeting and executive board with sufficient powers provided can help owners realizing their condominium ownership right and avoiding improper government interference.
