The success of the Expo 2010 has a great significance. The Expo 2010 has dual impacts that may be positive or negative, such as economic growth, the environmental pollution and so on. However, no matter the positive impacts or the negative impacts, they all will manifest outstandingly in the destination community, residents will detect these impacts foremost.This paper, with residents in Shanghai as the subject, using the methods of quantities research and qualitative research, helps thoroughly understand residents'perception of the Expo 2010, which is significant in building up harmonious relationship between community's development and economic prosperity.The purpose of this study has three objectives : Understand residents'perceive, analyze and summary the factor impacting the residents perception, validate the factors which affect the perception of residents.The thesis consists of five chapters. In Chapter 1, the author firstly introduces the subject-selecting background, and then the significance, content, methods were presented. In Chapter 2, the author makes a detail review of both abroad and domestic literatures on the related research progress of residents'perception on the Expo 2010 Shanghai and mega-events. In Chapter 3, the author defines the related concepts, the implication of mega-events, the Expo 2010, residents'perception, and explains two major related theories, the social exchange theory and the social representations theory, and then put forward the theoretic hypothesis for the following empirical research. In Chapter 4, taking Shanghai residents'perception as the demonstration case, this thesis respectively discusses residents'perception on three aspects that are economic, social-cultural and environmental impact by analyzing the questionnaire survey from Shanghai residents through the SPSS 17.0 factor analysis. Meanwhile, make analysis on the differences of resident's perception from the demographic characteristics and the relation to the Expo 2010, then sums up the perception features of Shanghai residents. In Chapter 5, through above analysis and discussion,the thesis puts forward feasibility opinion and suggestion, and analyzes the limitations of this research and gives a further look into the future research fields.The research shows: the impacts of the Expo 2010 to Shanghai residents mainly manifest in three aspects: the economic impact, the environmental impact and the social-cultural impact, Shanghai residents perceive stronger on positive impact of the Expo 2010, and weaker on negative impact. Shanghai residents'perception on positive social-cultural impact is more obvious than ones on positive economic and environmental impact, the majority of Shanghai residents take supporting views for the Expo 2010, and the perceptions of different characteristics'residents have some distinctness.
