The Characteristic And Influence Factors Of Sophistication Of China's Exports

With the rapid development of China's economy, the volume of its export products is rising, the structure of trade optimizes constantly, but academia pay attention to the quality problem of China's exports in recent years, in regard to this, this article analyzes the characters of sophistication and its influence factors from the side of Chinese exports. it deeply analyzes the quality level of China's exports.Using the interception of the latest data from 1995 to 2009 and more detailed products category to calculate the sophistication of each country's export products, we construct Chinese trade structure graph of sophistication by contrasting ISIC with industry classification standard and 1256 kinds of products correspond to 25 manufacturing. By constructing sophistication of exports from the national and industry level, we make a detailed analysis on sophistication of China's exports and compare it with the developed countries of the United States, Japan, Korea, and developing countries of India. The analysis makes conclusion like that:sophistication of China's exports is steadily uptrend, the growth rate is significantly higher than other countries, and the gap with developed countries is narrowing. Contrasts in the industry, we found that, the sophistication of China's exports is several times lower than developed countries, and keep slightly higher technical level than developed countries in labor-intensive low technology industry. This result shows that China's industrial structure is still around the low-end in the value chain.In the research of influencing factors to the sophistication, on the basis of theoretical analysis, we select the Chinese data from 1995 to 2009 to make the regression analysis. Research found that the ratio of capital and the labor, human capital, research and development investment are positively related to sophistication of China's exports; Land area per capita is negatively related to sophistication of China's exports, it shows that "resource curse" exists in China; FDI actively promotes the export technology level of ascension; Processing trade of foreign investment enterprise also improves the sophistication of export products, but this action still should be attributed to FDI.
