Modern Tumed Mongolians and Hans have been living together in a community for a long period of time and due to their local history, geographic environment and religious factors, they have encountered political, economic, and cultural change. Thus, their marriage customs also changed.The essay intends to study the marriage customs of Mongolians and Hans through filed investigation, current literature and the multi-level analysis. It is made into four parts.Part one for the introduction part, is made up of eight sections, which comprises the study purpose, research significance, current status upon the study, the method, marriage custom, the comparison, Tumed Mongolian, Han immigrants and sources.Part two describes the concept of marriage, the engagement and the wedding ceremony by consulting from the changes in marriage of Tumed Mongolians and Hans, combining the Mongol traditions and Shanxi Han traditions. The engagement description is consist of matchmaking, the ceremony and the bride price. And the wedding ceremony part also comprises marriage matching, the wedding ceremony and the back door custom.Part three analyzes and summarizes key factors of the changes of marriage in five sections, including the formation of new social relations, the changes in religious belief, the language assimilation, the changes in economic income and the social political changes.Part four is conclusion. Due to mutual influence marriage customs of Mongolians and Hans in Tumed area have produced significant common features. However, they still significantly differ from each other, keeping their original ethnic characters. While the former aspects promoted ethnic assimilation, the latter aspect contributed to keeping their ethnic indentify.
