The Study On Present Situations Of Poverty In Gansu Rural Regions

Poverty is the major social problems of the whole world. Many third world countries are the major poverty scales of the worldwide. China has taken reform and opening up measures to improve economic development, but it is still a difficult subject to change its position of the third world. There has been a long-lasting economic development pattern which calls the differences between eastern and western, meanwhile it has many reasons such as natural historical social and economical issue.Gansu province is relatively backward economy in western China, removing poverty and improving living quality have been the major topic of local people's pressing needs and the responsibility of local government. Exploiting resources and accelerating production are the better way to revitalize the poor areas of Gansu province. Therefore, the issue of poverty and anti-poverty in Gansu Province has been a vital measure to prevent the polarization and enhance the economical development. This thesis is consists of five parts:Chapter I is the introduction, mainly including the background and implication of the research as well as contemporary world-wide research situation. Chapter II is the summary of the theory of poverty, which is the necessary academic preparation and the theoretical basis. It focuses on the interpretation of poverty, poverty standard and calculation of poverty as well. Meanwhile it also provides the poverty indicators and measurement systems. Chapter III summarizes the standards of rural poverty and improves the existing method of calculating the poverty line, which applies the statistical data in Gansu province and re-calculates the poverty situation in Gansu. Applying the new standard, the thesis provides all types of poverty incidence and the poverty intensity as well as depth. Moreover it has put forward the comprehensive index evaluation system in rural poverty in Gansu province. Chapter IV is mainly the study of various reasons of regional economic disparities in Gansu province, the thesis is focusing on following aspects:the natural and geographic conditions, the economical structure, demographic and external factors.Chapter VI proposes countermeasures and suggestions for narrowing economic disparities from following aspects:technology-oriented poverty reduction and allopatry poverty alleviation, enhancing infrastructure construction, improving population quality.
