FedEx Express is the largest express mail company in the world, which handles more than 3 millions packages per day. With its superior quality and operations system, the customers have been experiencing outstanding services all over the world. In 1990s FedEx Express launched a project called Best Practice in the U.S territory, which promoted a kind of standard operations to improve productivity and services. Within two years practices and upgrade, the project was promoted to the company's branches all over the world, and made the Overnight Delivery service came true. Model Operations was developed by APAC in place of the Best Practices which failed in implementation in 2006. The main reasons of the fails was because of the misunderstanding of its concepts and ignorant of the power of the management. MO was initiated in 2007, which borrowed the concepts of Precise Practice of TOYOTA, and stressed that management, administration, and well planned project are the crucial to the implementation.This paper studied the project implementation processes in Beijing in 2008, and analyzed the project from perspectives of the management and standard operations concepts. Proposing that planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling and risk management are the basic quality of a management team, as well as quality management, team building and visual management are the key supporting systems leading the operations consistently moving forward. Besides, based on the implementation, the paper summarized the concerns that need to be further discussed, for instance, lack of innovation, unclear market orientation, stubborn operating standard, and lack of department-connection within the departments.With the analysis above, the paper evaluated the benefits of the Model Operations from the angles of the management and project management, indicating that model Operations are the trend for express industry. Finally, the writer hopes that this paper can provide references, valid data and suggestions to the project promotion in whole China stations.
