At present our country is in the rapid development period of urbanization and industrialization. The traditional mode of city development has far exceeded the China's resources, energy and environmental bearing capacity; more can't effectively solve so many environmental problems we face. Therefore, the ecological city, in the natural, social and economic compound system, with the harmonious and sustainable development as the basic characteristics, is becoming the ideal mode of urban sustainable development. But how to construct ecological city index and take systematic evaluation with an actual case, from the angle of the combination of the qualitative analysis and quantitative, is always the one of the subject scramble to be studied by various fields scholars in the world.This paper take Dandong city as an simpleton the basis of research and practice about the theory of ecological cities at home and abroad, with the understanding of the essence of the sustainable development and ecological city, this paper firstly analyzes the 3E(Energy-Economic-Environment) system of Dandong,respectively from the energy consumption, environmental pollution and economic development,get the conclusion:energy consumption and environmental pollution related degree for 0.8272; Economic growth and environmental pollution in a dilemma borders; Energy consumption and economic growth was basically is positively related to state. Then calculates the ecological footprint of Dandong city, analyzes its development ability, the results show that:Dandong, in 1998 to 2007, the ecological footprint of 104 GDP reduced year by year; the average, per capital ecological footprint is increasing year by year; per capita in ecological carrying capacity is basically stable slightly declined; the ecological footprint of diversity is in the stable growth. Finally constructs a sustainable development index system of Dandong ecological city, using entropy method and the MATLAB software to analyze and calculate the coordination degree and developing degrees of Dandong, calculates its development sustainability degree in1998 to 2007 respectively is 2.2687,2.0065,2.1035,2.0550,2.2470, 2.2784,2.3849,2.6225,2.7614,2.7897.We can see, the coordination degree and development degree in 1998 to 2007 is in a steadily rising status, and the development index is higher than the coordinate index. Visible, coordination is the foundation, the development is essential. The two synchronization growth is conducive to the sustainable development of ecological city. And this index system for evaluating ecological city sustainable development is also feasible whether.
