Study On Quality Control For K Company A Series Faucets During New Product Development Process

K company is a Bath and Kitchen company with its headquarters in America. In recent years, in order to get survival in the competitive market, the company has been focusing on developing its core competencies, focus on new products development and marketing services, and the manufacturing is outsourced to the other OEM suppliers in China. However, at the beginning of this stage, many quality arguments were found, especially during A series kitchen faucet development process, because of the unreasonable product design, and poor quality control in the manufacturing supplier, the product quality was not stable. Finally, the company was under high pressure because of the extremely delay of the new product development project, the lost control project cost and customer complain.In this paper, author demonstrates the quality problem, study and analysis it's root cause by using the modern total quality control theory, point out that the company should establish the total quality control process according to the industry property, company strategies, and product property, the new process should focus on the product quality design and supplier qualification and selection.The first chapter in the paper is to introduce the background and purpose of this paper. The second chapter introduces the background of K company and its OEM suppliers in Asia, and also the relationship between different parties,and also to introduce the new develop product A series faucet. The third chapter is to raise up the quality problem for the A series kitchen faucet during new product development process and then analysis the root cause of these quality problems by using modern quality control method. The forth charter points out that it's necessary to establish a new quality control process, the new process should focus on customer requirement, using quality control tools to ensure the new developed product can meet customer requirement, selecting the qualified supplier to participate in the new product development process, ensure the product quality at the very beginning, and also introduces how the improved quality controls are applied in the new developed products, at last, appraises the result of the new quality control process.The results in the paper indicate that after improving the quality control during new product development process in K company, after using the CE, work together with suppliers, applying correct quality control tools can improve the product design quality, the product quality has been increased a lot, and development lead time is reduced, cost is reduced.
