Risk Management Research On ODM Project Of Mobile Phone

Risk management theory was firstly brought out in 1930s, in USA. With the development in recent years, now it is getting more mature in western countries and Japan. But risk management is not so widely spread in China. Most local companies lack of the knowledge and experience on risk management, and there is still a long way in researching risk management theory and practice.Mobile phone industry is one of the most competitive high-technology in the field, and each new handset is facing great uncertainty and challenge before coming into the market. Firstly, now people are not satisfied with short message function only, they are requesting more features on mobile phone. New features bring great enjoyment to customer. In the meanwhile, the new technology behind new feature brings risk to handset development. Secondly, nowadays most famous companies move their factory to China and ask local team to do original design manufacture (ODM) for cost down purpose. In these foreign projects, there are more risks coming from different environment, language and culture aspects.In this article, with the introduction of ODM background and its potential risks and challenges, it states the importance to implement risk management in S company. Taking B2 project as an example, with risk plan, risk identify, risk evaluation, risk monitor and risk control processes, B2 project risks have been effectively mitigated. In this article, risk management theory is introduced to S company mobile phone development. As a risk management practice case, it helps risk management theory to spread in China, especially in mobile phone industry.
