Steel industry is the leading industry to accelerate the industrialization, which plays a more and more important role in the national economy. As the outstanding and representative parties, the listed companies of steel industry have been paid much attention in the whole market. Evaluating and analyzing their performance will be of great and practical significance for performance management.Through the comparative analysis of the DEA method and other methods of performance evaluation, this dissertation uses DEA method to evaluate the performance of the listed companies in steel industry, which is popularly used in assessing the system with multiple inputs and outputs. The study screens the appropriate decision-making units, establishes the input and output index system, determines the DEA model, and constructs a complete set of performance evaluation method based on DEA for steel listed companies. The dissertation selects 36 listed steel companies in Shenzhen and Shanghai Stock Exchange Market as the research sample to analyze from the view both of parallel and vertical points. Through the analysis in this dissertation, the listed steel companies have such characteristics as general level of the performance, serious polarization, unstable performance and so on. Finally, according with the research product and the trend of development of the future, the dissertation puts forward some suggestions for the steel companies in the stock market.Results from this study will help the listed steel companies to better understand, analyze deeply and assess accurately and then improve themselves. In addition, the research is also helpful for the investors in the stock market on how to choose a good investment objective.
