The research is about the study on the RGB color paste formulation design and its applications for woodenware coatings, which is based on pigment. In the experiments, the key factors of the paste manufacturing process, formulation and paint preparation have been discussed, and products of color paste and color paint have been prepared. Through the analysis of testing, the products can be applicable to all wood coating products of which main properties have reached or exceeded the national environmental standards.Factors on paste properties have been inspected which contain feeding sequence, grinding times, dispersion speed, pigment, wetting and dispersant agent and other additives. The study has shown that to get a paste of good performance, the feeding sequence should be first water, and then dispersant agent and other additives, finally the pigment; the first phase of pre-dispersed speed should be 1000 r/min, and the second phase should be 3000 r/min; grinding times can be controlled for using three-roller machine; pigments are the main material which should have high performance and also be easy to be dispersed; wetting and dispersing agent can effectively reduce the surface tension of water and improve the dispersion effect of pigments and fillers, and different pigments should select a different wetting dispersant based on Daniel Flow Point method; the balance of the defoaming and compatibility should be taken into account when using defoamers, and molecular defoamer Foamaster A34 can be added to iron oxide red paste and phthalocyanine blue paste, while iron oxide yellow can use modified organic silicone Dehydran 1620;iron oxide red and yellow is easy to subside because of their great density, but the appropriate viscosity and moderate thixotropy have been obtained with combination of thickener and anti-precipitant; due to higher water content of phthalocyanine blue paste, propylene glycol should be added to improve the system’s freeze-thaw stability and the equivalent weight amount of 10% can meet the requirements;ammonia water is used to adjust the pH value of 8.5-9.0 which is conducive to the storage stability of pastes; isothiazolinone mildew fungicide Alex F-252,with the equivalent weight amount of 0.2%,shows characteristics of high efficiency, broad range and low toxicity, also good compatibility with the system.The color application has also been studied. Types of paints are prepared by mixing different proportions of paste and basic paint. The performance of based paint has been impacted after adding the color paste,and as the paste amount increases, the impact becomes more obvious which expresses that the storage stability and water resistance gradually deteriorated, the hiding power is growing,and the wear resistance becomes markedly enhanced, but when the amount is too high, wear resistance becomes somewhat weakened,so the paste amount should be controlled within maximum when preparing the paint.
