Large aluminum trapezoidal ring member with variable section, is an important memberof a aircraft, the mechanical properties of members formed by traditional processing methods(direct machining, casting processing and bending stamping process) are difficult to meetservice conditions. Plastic molding can effectively improve the mechanical properties of thematerial, but the exist plastic forming process only applies to the processing of the ring, andcan not control the cross-sectional variation of the members. Forming of complex overalltrapezoidal ring was little studied at present, it is urgent to study plastic molding method andprocess of trapezoidal ring member.For the forming of2A12aluminum trapezoidal ring in this paper, two processingprograms are proposed:(1) Trapezoidal tube blank is obtained by anti-extrusion, and then cutto obtain a trapezoidal ring;(2) After upsetting, punching, expanding ring, ring blanks willsupport expansion and shaping to get a trapezoidal ring;Establishing mold geometry by UG, Importing Deform Software to simulate the formingprocess of trapezoidal ring member, by comparison the analysis (The shortcomings of optionOne are the low utilization in material and high load; the advantages of option two are thesmall load and small injury), program two is determined for the forming of trapezoidal ring;Study found that, the use of the transitional (the transition from round to trapezoid)punch in expansion, slowed the non-uniformity of the material flow; When the insideperimeter of the ring blank is0.95times to the inside perimeter of trapezoidal ring in theprocess of expansion, and a use of transition type (the transition from round to trapezoid) splitdie, longitudinal deformation of the similar trapezoid ring is small and ease to shaping; Inshaping, when the stroke of the lower mold used is500mm, the draft angle of5degrees,trapezoidal ring shaped better;Comparing simulation results in expansion and shaping under different parameters,choosing a more suitable molding temperature of460±5℃, die extrusion speed of10mm/s, and the use of oil-based graphite lubricant for lubrication; Finally, based on the existingthree-dimensional model of the die, expansion and shaping molds designed.The results of this paper have some reference to the plastic forming of the similarcomplex ring of other materials.
