In order to gain a foothold in the competitive market, many enterprises havebeen anxious that the efficiency of their product design should be improved. Thesecondary development on the basis of the existing three-dimensional CADsoftware to create a parametric design system in accordance with the productfeatures is a effective way to shorten design period and reduce costs of theresearch for the dedicated product system.Based on the actual project and the design features of the products made by thecurrent ceramic tile mould enterprises, a parametric design system of ceramic tilemould has been researched. This system is developed by VC++, and runs in thehost software—Solidworks. In this paper, some substances has been elaborated asfollows:1.Ceramic tile mould’s operational principle and its key parts’ design andfeatures.2.With the guidance of top-down design method, the whole design flow ofceramic tile mould system has been established. On the basis of requirementanalysis, the general framework of system has been constructed, and the moduleswith different levels have been divided. In order to deliver the designinginformation effectively, the interfaces of modules have been built up through thepublic class way.3.Combined with the method of parametric design, a new part design approachwith variable structure thought, which expands the thought of module design intothe part structure design, has been proposed. This new approach is an effectivemeans to solve the difficult problem that the structure of mould’s part ischangeable. Introducing this method into the practical application, the templatelibrary of three-dimensional model and engineering drawing is built and used inthe process of parametric design.4.The all interfaces of parametric system have been programmed with theobject-oriented technology. In order to manage the design information, thedatabase of Microsoft-Access has been introduced and connected to the systemby using the ADO technology.Through actually running in the ceramic tile mould enterprise, this system has been proven efficient and useful in the process of product design. The variablestructure thought, which is referred in this paper, can serve as the guideline andreference for other products’ parametric design.
