Cow hair has occupied a considerable proportion in the waste ofleather-making industry with the popularization and application ofHair-saving Unhairing process. At present, the main way to recycle thecow hair is hydrolyzed them to extract keratin. Because of cow hairkeratin has stable chemical bonds (-S-O-Ca-S-), it’s difficult to behydrolyzed in generally. Therefore, it’s very important to research andestablish one or more feasible methods about hydrolysis to reduce the badinfluence of waste cow hair. The thesis take cow hair from Hair-saving Unhairing Process as theresearch object, alkaline hydrolysis process, acid oxidation hydrolysisprocess and alkali catalytic oxidation process were studied to preparekeratin filling materials from several aspects:(1) The optimum conditions of alkaline hydrolysis process were as follow: NaOH10%, pretreatmenttime60min, reaction temperature75℃, NaHSO325%and reaction time6h. The degradation rate is78.75%.(2) The optimum conditions of acidoxidation hydrolysis process were as follow: H2SO4solutionconcentration40%, pretreatment time6h, degradation temperature75℃,liquid-solid ratio11, the dosage of H2O240%. The degradation rate is70.34%.(3) Through alkali catalytic oxidation process, the degradationrate of cow hair is higher than82.0%.(4) the preliminary study on theinfluence of the calcium content of cow hair on degradation rate showthat the more calcium content, the more formation of the cross-linkingbond, the cow structure is more stable and difficult to degrade. The research for degrade the cow hair from Hair-saving UnhairingProcess provide a efficient method and route. Mild conditions, Highdegradation rate and the filling effect of filler materials in sheepskin isgood.
